Rezūm is a minimally invasive technology that utilizes the thermal energy in water vapor to shrink the excess tissue of the prostate that presses on the urethra and causes a variety of urinary problems. Such problems often include symptoms and conditions that include:

What Happens During Treatment with Rezūm?

In order to perform this procedure, your urologist will inject the water vapor (steam) into the targeted prostate tissue. Once injected, the steam will begin to break apart legions that have formed by destroying their cells. With the legions gone, the urinary channel is now freely open as it should be, which will gradually resolve the patient’s urinary issues.

The Rezūm System is performed entirely within your provider’s office in approximately 5 minutes or less. This simple procedure will require a few days to take full effect, during which time patients will have a catheter in place to assist in urination until anticipated swelling subsides. Three days after your treatment is performed, you will return to Siouxland Urology to have this catheter removed, and that’s it! Symptoms will continue to improve for months to come, though patients typically notice the greatest effect of the Rezūm System during the first two weeks after it is implemented.
